CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Category: SOCIAL JUSTICE
Call #1: Re-Right The Wrong!
The socially conscious song, "Wake Up Everybody," by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, is a battle cry for change in the '70s against the deviances of its time. It's disturbing that the song is relevant in the 21st century. John Legend did a remix of the same song in 2010. His message then was no different than theirs was in 1975.
Even so, in the midst of anger, the makings of change must show up. And if you're not the navigator (good-bad, right-wrong), change will manifest itself...one way or another. Will you orchestrate it? Or will it dictate to you?
Listen to both songs. Reflect. Make a list of actions that teens can make now to evoke positive change. Then, in your genre, write how you intend to right the social and cultural injustices of the 21st century. Or, or flex, and write in another genre.

Call #2: I Still Can't Breathe!
If all the ills in the world are making you angry, you have a right to be. You are not out of line to feel anger about all the bitterness nor are you out of line if you react to it. It is as natural and necessary an emotion as joy, and you are entitled to it—especially, when there appears to be no end in sight; no light at the end of any tunnel. And after the anger, hurt and sadness comes the aftershock.
But when the aftershock wears off, dissension, division and disdain seeps in and tries to suffocate the world even more. With words, in your genre, create your truth and your light. Or, or flex, and write in another genre.

Call #3: Dying to Live
We are living in a very challenging time. COVID-19 is a respiratory virus that's wreaking havoc and it is not discriminating. How did we get here? Why did we get here? COVID is stirring turmoil economically, spiritually, socially, emotionally, mentally, romantically, academically, technologically, nutritionally and medically. The effect on you, your family, your neighbors, teachers, friends, coworkers and people around the world is catastrophic.
Things will not change until the world sees change. In the pandemic, how its handled, how humans handle it and each other—it'll be here for a while... Document your experiences surrounding COVID-19. Write in your genre, or flex, and write in another genre.
Call #4: TO V OR NOT TO V...
That, is the question...
Why would I? Why wouldn't I? Is it a plot? Or not? Will I live from the medicine? Will I die from the fear? Will I be a martyr? Or a hero? Will I make history? Will I be history? To v or not to v. That IS the question. Answer it in your genre or flex and write in another genre!

Call #5: Bylines
Intrigued with journalism? Current events? Pop culture?
We are intrigued with the cross-cultural understanding of teens today more than any other generation. If someone is going to tell the story, they need to tell the story right. And who better to tell the truth about the upside downness of society than a teen who is knee-deep in the anthropology of its imbalance?
If you are are teen, committed to reporting the authenticity in the news and growing equity in the news industry, then tell your stories. Be the voice and we will be the microphone promoting and defending free press for teens as long as you notice the world in which you live and use your voice as your power.
