Our Why
Our story is not one that calls for tissues and tears. It's noneventful, but powerful. There is a dire need. We're filling it. It's that simple. It's that necessary.
Our writing and publishing opportunities lets teens "practice how they play" until their words are transformed into stories that they want to tell the way they want to tell them.

Whether they connect with us in high school or the community, teens know that they have a safe space to discover how their imaginations can translate into powerful storytelling.
Beginnings
#TWP was created because I needed it when I was a teenager. In high school, I was a great writer and had the talent and thirst to be a professional writer. Magazines and newspapers were always interested in my work, but not a single one would publish me once they found out I was a teen.
Evolution
In high schools, students are bombarded with the drill and kill of test prep in order to pass standardized tests. Without the chance to be imaginative and write creatively, teens lose interest in writing altogether.
After a few years in the classroom, I realized I had to do something, so I did. #TeenWritersProject emerged as my promise to provide the support for teens around the world to channel their vulnerabilities and tell real stories that matter to them, their world, and the entire world.
I blended the arts with academics and encouraged teens to push creativity to its limits to advocate for their causes or flaunt their storytelling finesse. When allowed to do this in class, students' reading, writing, social, emotional, cultural, and creative literacy skills improve.

Beyond
#TeenWritersProject is committed to providing teenagers with equitable writing and publishing opportunities, and training them to get hired in the writing industry and beyond. We help them realize the value of their opinions and show them how to turn those opinions into powerful stories that can be cathartic, generate income, and change their lives.
