"There is no doubt being able to write formal essays is an important part of a teen's academic development but creative writing, for all its purposes, strengthens academic development." -delmetria millener, founder, #TeenWritersProject
L.I.T. WRITERS IN SCHOOLS
Our L.I.T. Writers in Schools program brings writing and publishing experts into high school classrooms to introduce the craft and career of writing and publishing to students using SEL-aligned, standards-based strategies.
Industry experts show teens how to use their personal experiences to make connections that help them develop their voice and personal writing style. Soon, teens will know how to view and use writing as a powerful form of creative, personal, and academic expression.

THE L.I.T. FOUNDATION
- Literary. We believe that every student should have equal access to quality, classic, modern, contemporary culturally responsive reading and writing resources.
- Inclusive. We advocate for students and teachers in vulnerable populations. We teach the whole child, despite their background, lifestyle, or zip code, always and all ways.
- Teacher-Student Collaboration. We support varied perspectives in literature by getting feedback from teachers and students around the globe to use as best-practice to encourage and shape writing habits in all students.
HOW WE DO IT
When we visit a school, students take ownership of their learning by collaborating with professional writers and their teachers over five workshop sessions that lead to publication in literary magazine, The #TWP Quarterly. Schools can either choose to have their students experience all five sessions, or customize them to suit their classroom or academic needs.
OTHER BENEFITS
- A chance to be included in our annual public art exhibit.
- An invitation to volunteer on #TWP's Teen Editorial Board.
- Opportunities to apply for a paid internship with #TeenWritersProject.
