YOU HAVE A STORY TO TELL. WE HAVE A PLATFORM FOR YOU TO TELL IT!
Teen Writers-in-Residency Program
Teens are the next generation of consumers and documentarists. Their opinions shape the way we move in the world.
About the Residency
In keeping with our mission, our summer training program provides a collaborative and engaging space for teens to write, be published, and get hired so they can have access to economic, racial, and social equity.
Each summer, between June and August, aspiring teen writers participate in our Teen Writers-in-Residence program at an exclusive, physical location in Dallas, Texas. They have the opportunity to focus on telling their stories in an uninterrupted environment while learning the business of being a writer and gaining support from members of the literary community to fully develop their publishing pursuits!

Investment
There are many job training programs for teens, however, they do not have programming that support careers in writing which is a highly lucrative career that does not require college.
As a solution our Teen Writers-in-Residence training program provides a measurable impact that is helping to close, the opportunity divide. Our Residency is an investment in providing teens and the writing industry with the training, resources, community, connections, and support to provide access to an underrepresented pool of talent our country needs to grow and thrive.

Teens have the power through their words to educate, heal and illuminate the mind.
Impact
Our programming focuses on equity in the following areas:
- Economic: for teens who are undeserved, writing can provide opportunities for them to make money (freelancing in journalism, copywriting, and academia)
- Racial: breaking into to industries traditionally flooded by white people (screen/film writing, copywriting, ghostwriting, publishing (agents, acquisition editors, coaches, etc.), teaching writing, blogging; speechwriting); and
- Social: more opportunities in more areas traditionally held by white people: membership in writing organizations and associations, fellowships, internships, residencies, grants, and national endowments.
How It Works
During the first half of the program, participants will explore the craft of writing by choosing a focus on fiction, nonfiction, journalism, poetry, film/stage, or music. During the second half, participants learn the business of being a writer including how to market themselves and their works, and how to develop content for various media to promote the publication of their completed work.
At the end of the program, participants will publicly share their completed work. Short stories, poetry, and journalistic pieces will be published in The #TWP Quarterly literary magazine, stage plays will be performed at a theater venue, screenplays will be filmed and presented on-screen, and songs will be performed during a private concert.

Teens can educate and inform, help us share and connect with others, and make us all feel closer to our past and understand our place in the world.
