Whether they connect with us in high school or the community, teens know that they have a safe space to discover how their imaginations can translate into powerful storytelling.
Our Why
Beginnings
#TWP was created because I needed it when I was a teenager. In high school, I was a great writer and had the talent and thirst to be a professional writer. Magazines and newspapers were always interested in my work, but not a single one would publish me when they found out I was a teen.
Evolution
In high schools, students are bombarded with the drill and kill of test prep in order to pass standardized tests. Without the chance to be imaginative and write creatively, teens lose interest in writing altogether. I couldn't continue to let that happen.
After a few years in the classroom, #TeenWritersProject emerged as my promise to provide high school teens with opportunities to channel their vulnerabilities and tell real stories that matter to them, their dreams, imaginations, their world, and the entire world. I blended the arts with academics so teens can push creativity to its limits to advocate for their causes or flaunt their storytelling finesse.

Beyond
#TeenWritersProject is committed to providing teenagers with equitable writing and publishing opportunities, and training them to get hired in the writing industry and beyond. We help them realize the value of their opinions and show them how to turn those opinions into powerful stories that can be cathartic, generate income, and change their lives.
